Nowadays, the most efficient and hygienic way to get rid of insects is to lure them into a trap and thus eliminate them. The key to successful trapping is to identify the colors and wavelengths that attract insects particularly strongly.
The housefly’s eyes are sensitive to certain colors and certain wavelengths of the light spectrum. Through extensive research, UV lamps have been developed that match perfectly the sensitivity of an insect’s eyes.
It is well known that flying insects are attracted to light. For nocturnal insects, the type of light source is secondary (whether a candle, flashlight, car headlight). This does not happen to the same extent with diurnal insects. For them, UV-A light is particularly attractive. On the one hand, the light wave range creates a compulsory approach, and on the other hand, the flickering of the fluorescent lamp (which is barely visible to the human eye) causes a kind of lighthouse effect. To the compound eye of the flying insect, the lamp appears to be constantly switching off and on.
How it works:
In the professional catering sector, you have the option of choosing from PTFE coated versions that hold the entire glass in place in the event of breakage (UV shatterproof lamps or shatterproof UV lamps). This provides protection against contamination through accidental breakage. You can expect high, quality performance with tested technology when you select an Actinic UV lamp.
