Electric grid – a beacon of hope for a summer without annoying insects

Electric insect traps operate on a simple principle: A fluorescent tube, emitting light in the 365 nm range which is highly attractive to insects, lures them in. On their way to the UV light, the pests have to pass an electrode grid that is charged with high voltage (usually several thousand volts). When approaching these electrodes, the insects are killed quickly and safely.

Flies are among the most dangerous germ carriers. Although a fly weighs only a few milligrams, it can carry over 4 million germs! The housefly, flesh fly, blowfly and stable fly pose a threat to humans, pets and livestock by transmitting microorganisms. It is recommended to restrict the use of electric insect traps to indoor areas, as the UV light also attracts beneficial insects and moths.

How “high-voltage insect killers” work

There are high-voltage grids or plates near the UV tubes, which kill the flying insects with a short-circuit spark. The current is relatively low — the voltage is usually a few thousand volts. However, conventional “small devices” have hardly proven themselves: the electrical grids are mostly constructed with too fine a mesh so that the insects get stuck on the grid and burn. However, during the stewing process, the high voltage breaks down and flying insects cannot be destroyed.
Another essential aspect is the fact that the intensity of UV radiation has a significant influence on the attractiveness of the light source.
The flying insect killers generally have integrated lamps with a power of 2 × 15 or 2 × 20 watts to 2 × 40 watts.

Regular maintenance for optimal performance and longevity of your fan insect trap

Replacing the UV lamps:

  • UV lamps attract insects and therefore play an important role in how the trap works
  • Over time, the brightness of the lamps decreases, reducing their attraction to insects

Always use recommended replacement parts:

  • Original spare parts:
    • They are optimally tailored to the device and ensure full functionality
    • Using imitations may affect performance and cause damage to the device
  • Extended lifespan:
    • Regular maintenance with original spare parts significantly extends the lifespan of your glue trap

Invest in regular maintenance to maximize the benefits of your fan insect trap:

  • Highest efficiency:
    • Continuously high catchability thanks to powerful UV lamps
  • Longevity:
    • Avoidance of wear and damage by using original spare parts
  • Reliability:
    • Safe functionality for years to come

Tip:

  • Mark the maintenance date in your calendar so you don’t forget to replace lamps (once a year).
